News From YOUTH Council Executive

"Art-A-Thon Great Success"
Youth gathered on October 24th at St. Margaret's United Church to participate in good food, fellowship, creativity and a chance to care for others. What a night! Of course like all potlucks there was more food than we could eat and such a variety. After dinner we had the pleasure of some of the youth sharing their own experiences raising money for the You to Youth Project (linking youth together to fight HIV/AIDS) and how important this project was to them. Together we watched a dvd about the You to Youth Project which inspired the youth to create some incredible pieces of art that evening. Each piece of art was name by the artist and inside on the card a description of what the artwork meant to them. I am hoping that you all take time during the presybtery meeting to view this collection from our Kingston Presbytery Youth. The GREAT NEWS they raised $1,004.00 for the worthwhile project in pledges but the night brought forward more exciting news. Ideas where bubbling on how to help raise more money so that the $60,000. goal that was set by a group of youth 2 years ago could be met. One boy that had a long ponytail took two cups and wrote on them ..cut the ponytail off......keep the ponytail and you had to pay a loonie if you wanted to be in on the decision making of whether the ponytail stayed or not. He is still collecting so I am not sure how he is doing or whether the ponytail is still there????
Barb Adle who came with the St. Andrew's youth talked about maybe doing a Drum-a-thon with the "Abbey North Drummers" and it looks like that could be our next event in March. (More exciting information coming soon)
"WHAT YOU CAN DO " Youth have used many different methods for fundraising: special collections during worship or congregational meals, "tip" jars at events where youth are serving, selling of Fair Trade products including You To Youth T-shirts and bags, selling the "Abbey North Drummers" CD, giving of "You to Youth" donation cards. Others have organized walkathons and others have had their head shaved! Many Presbyteries and UCWs have pitched in with their support as well. We invite every church to participate in this outreach.
